I would like to clarify for the people who may ask details on the decision process which was followed for this production: there was a discussion at last PWGC meeting (Friday 9th) on the possibility of running a TPT based targeted production following a request by Yury Gorbonov and Janet Seager made on the 7th of May. Further communication went aside mailing list and the following events occurred: - I have asked Lidia to check the TPT based chains on the 12th and she confirmed the chain was still working as expected by the observation of the nightly tests - there was hence no technical barriers - while I have cautioned against the use of TPT (on 5/7/2008 and 5/12/2008), I recognized also that the situation seem critical for UPC. The geometries subtle issues are most affecting the UPC physics and there may be a real show stopper there to deliverables of any results. It was clearly stated on the 12th that the decision power on whether or not to run Sti or TPT chain (and considering the advanced warning on Physics qualities) was the responsibility of the PAC BUT, considering the lengthy debate (and the shorter time at this stage for running a production) I suggested that (a) the production proceed as requested and (b) veto from PAC should come if the reasoning brought as per the physics quality were retained. - There was no word from the PAC nor a veto and we interpreted as an approval of the plan to move along the thin line of "risk". This Email could serve as a base for infirm-ing this plan to move forward. The absence of a statement will be considered as an approval. The production hence is proceeding forward unless again otherwise stated and this is confined for the UPC samples alone with no other exceptions foreseen at this stage.
