Distributed computing

General description of the project:

The data volume generated by STAR in 2000 and 2001 was not large enough to force adoption of a truly distributed computing environment - instead, having two essentially parallel sites was sufficient.  However, improvements in RHIC luminosity, data acquisition bandwidth and other factors will necessitate distributed computing for the next STAR run, which begins late in 2002.  For this purpose the   Virtual Data Toolkit   (VDT) appears to offer the tools necessary to accomplish this (Condor, GDMP and Globus) and initial installations are underway as of mid-2002.
