Organization of production periods and series
  Maintenance

Reconstruction production is organized into production periods and production series. A production period covers a period of time during which a production pass over the data (whether real or simulated) is performed. The period designation distinguishes the reconstruction output of one production pass from the others. A production series is the specific reconstruction chain configuration used, eg. using TRS or TSS; several production series may be run on a given input data set within a given production period.

Production periods to date include MDC1, MDC2, and post-MDC2 (called 'MDC3'!). Production series within these periods include trs, tss, tfs. Documented here is how production periods and series and their output will be designated from now on.

Production period/series designations and DST placement

Placement of dsts from production series is organized by adding to the basic directory name which specifies name and options of production set (eg. auau200/hijing135/jetq_off/b0_3/year_1b/hadronic_on) an additonal subdirectory /tfs, /tss or /trs specifying the series (in these cases distinguished by the TPC code running for response simulation).

The production periods MDC1 and MDC2 had different sets of GEANT simulation input files and thus no 'period' ambiguity in organizing the associated reconstruction output. All production dst files from these periods have been put in /tfs or /tss subdirectories.

Starting from the post MDC2 period subdirectory names /tfs, /tss and /trs were modified to distinguish the production period (an 'r' was appended) from the MDC2 production on the same data. This was an ad hoc convention we are now replacing with a better defined 'period' designation. We propose from now to give an extension /tfs_N where N specifies the production period number. Below is a list of production series subdirectory names:

A change of period happens when a rerun of reconstruction production is planned.

Log and summary file organization

Run log files during MDC1 and MDC2 have been put in the directories in which names include name of the running period and subdirectories /tfs,/tss or /trs designating the series:

Log files for MDC1 and MDC2 production have been transfered on HPSS and removed from the disk space. Starting from PostMDC2 period directory structure for log files has been changed due to creation of summary files for which names are the same as names of set file like psc0050_01_40evts and have extension .sum. The summary files contain filtered information from corresponding log files.

Organization of directory structure for log and sum files for PostMDC2 is:

We propose for current and future production to organize directory structure along similar lines, using the production period:

Current production period 4 log and sum files locations:

Future production period N log and sum files locations:
