• The simulation framework is also becoming old and obsolete

  • Relies on Geant3
    • developers are long un-interested
    • FORtran developers are becoming extremely rare
  • Detector geometry inconsistent
    • Hard to maintain and extend
    • No relation between reconstruction and simulation geometries
  • Not possible as-is to
    • Integrate new MC models (Fluka, Geant4)
    • New geometry description approach (XML/GDML, Tgeo, ...)
    • To have a complex hit/track/ancestry relation
    • Lack of good tools for geometry description

• Evaluating

  • Virtual Monte-Carlo (initially developed in Alice)
  • GDML (but not a priority)
