PMD Operation Manual: Run 5 (Aug 2004)
¨ High Voltage
Control Panel is on Desktop 1 on PMD Monitor
¨ Low Voltage
Power Supply Control Panel is on Desktop 2 on PMD Monitor.
Low Voltage Crates: 3, 4 & 5. (CAUTION: DONOT
TURN OFF ANY OTHER CRATE.)
To turn ON or OFF a
crate: First left mouse click and make sure it turns blue and then right
mouse click to select ON or OFF.
1.
Physics Runs:
a)
High
Voltage Control Panel: Click on Physics
b)
Low
Voltage Power Supply: Make sure
Crates 3,4 and 5 are ON.

Beam Dump:
a)
High Voltage Control Panel:
Click on Standby and wait till it is ready.
b)
Low
Voltage Power Supply: Turn OFF Crates 3,4 and 5 ONLY

Pedestal Taking: (when BEAM is
OFF)
a)
High Voltage Control Panel: Click on Pedestal
and wait till it is ready
b)
Low
Voltage Power Supply: Turn ON Crates 3,4 and 5.
c)
To
take pedestal:
·
On
the run control gui: TRG, DAQ and PMD only
·
Take L1CTL out. This is under trg, main.
(Right click on L1CTL and select `Remove from
the Run’)
·
Select
`Pedestal’ in the run configuration
·
Start
run:Then put Base Rate: 10.0
·
Click
on Issue trigger: It’ll show that L1CTL not selected
– click Yes.Then put 100 events. This is a must – run will not start otherwise.
·
After
100 events stop the run and mark the file usable.
d)
After
taking Pedestal: Put back L1CTL following similar
procedure as above.
4.
After Beam is Cogged:
a)
High
Voltage Control Panel: Click on Physics
b)
Low Voltage Power Supply: Make
sure Crates 3,4 and 5 are ON.
5.
In case of DAQ problems: (for example PMD dead time
100%): Try these in sequence
a)
Stop
the run and start again
b)
Reboot
DAQ (PMD should be included in the run control GUI)
c)
Turn
PMD Low Voltage Crates 3,4 and 5 first OFF and then ON
If these don’t work take PMD out of DAQ and call an expert. Send mail to PMD hypernews.
6. High Voltage Trip:
If PMD HV trips then
a) Clear Trip
b) Click on Physics if it is a physics run – that’s all.
7. Magnet Ramp UP/Down: Doesn’t matter for PMD.
8. PMD Gas: Should be checked at least once per shift. Argon: 46-50, CO2: 16-18, Total: 58-65.
