PMD Operation Manual: Run 5 (Aug 2004)

¨     High Voltage Control Panel is on Desktop 1 on PMD Monitor

¨     Low Voltage Power Supply Control Panel is on Desktop 2 on PMD Monitor.

Low Voltage Crates: 3, 4 & 5. (CAUTION: DONOT TURN OFF ANY OTHER CRATE.)

To turn ON or OFF a crate: First left mouse click and make sure it turns blue and then right mouse click to select ON or OFF.

1.     Physics Runs:

a)     High Voltage Control Panel:     Click on Physics

b)    Low Voltage Power Supply:     Make sure Crates  3,4 and 5 are ON.

2.     Beam Dump:

a)    High Voltage Control Panel:  Click on Standby and wait till it is ready.

b)    Low Voltage Power Supply:  Turn OFF Crates 3,4 and 5 ONLY

3.     Pedestal Taking:       (when BEAM is OFF)

a)    High Voltage Control Panel: Click on Pedestal and wait till it is ready

b)    Low Voltage Power Supply:  Turn ON Crates 3,4 and 5.

c)     To take pedestal:

·         On the run control gui: TRG, DAQ and PMD only

·         Take L1CTL out. This is under trg, main.

(Right click on L1CTL and select `Remove from the Run’)

·         Select `Pedestal’ in the run configuration

·         Start run:Then put Base Rate: 10.0

·         Click on Issue trigger:  It’ll show that L1CTL not selected – click Yes.Then put 100 events. This is a must – run will not start otherwise.

·         After 100 events stop the run and mark the file usable.

d)    After taking Pedestal: Put back L1CTL following similar procedure as above.

4.     After Beam is Cogged:

a)     High Voltage Control Panel: Click on Physics

b)    Low Voltage Power Supply:  Make sure Crates 3,4 and 5 are ON.

5.     In case of DAQ problems: (for example PMD dead time 100%): Try these in sequence

a)     Stop the run and start again

b)    Reboot DAQ (PMD should be included in the run control GUI)

c)     Turn PMD Low Voltage Crates 3,4 and 5 first OFF and then ON

If these don’t work take PMD out of DAQ and call an expert. Send mail to PMD hypernews.

6.     High Voltage Trip: If PMD HV trips then

a)     Clear Trip

b)    Click on Physics if it is a physics run – that’s all.

7.     Magnet Ramp UP/Down: Doesn’t matter for PMD.

8.     PMD Gas: Should be checked at least once per shift. Argon: 46-50,  CO2: 16-18, Total: 58-65.
