What Detector Operators Need to Know (minimum)

1. When detector and RDOs should be on


A. RDOs (readout boxes) should ALWAYS be left on EXCEPT when there is an access and then they should be turned off for the duration of the access!
B. Detector Low Voltages and High Voltages should always be off during beam dumps and beam fills.
C. When magnet is being ramped up/down, the detector voltages (LV and HV) should be off, but RDOs should remain on (again, except if there is an access).

2. To make sure alarm handler is running and has not been silenced!

3. How to turn on and off SVT detector

5. How to disable laser for pedestal taking and enable laser for physics

6. How to respond to alarms and take appropriate action

7. How to do an emergency shutdown of the detector

8. How to do an emergency shutdown of the water system (which will shutdown the detector too)

It is suggested that the detector operators read through the two manuals below. The SVT Quick Reference Manual contains most the information needed to operate the SVT. The AlarmResponses manual tells the operate what do to in case of an alarm. Hardcopies of these documents are kept in the "SVT Operations Handbook Run V", a binder that is kept at the SVT station in the control room.
