SVT--TPC Integration

Last Updated: 15 June 1995

Requirement:

The space between the point of highest voltage on the TPC-IFC and the outermost layer of the SVT structure has to be at least 25 cm.

Justification:

We assume a maximum voltage of 85,000 Volts on the detector. The reduction of the voltage through the gas gap filled with atmospheric air is set to be 4,000 V/cm. By setting the maximum voltage to 100 kV we allow a slight margin for risk reduction.

Status:

Presently the distance between the graphite epoxy tubes connecting the two cone halfs and the IFC of the TPC is slightly more than 32 cm. Even by taking into account the suggested resistor chain at the TPC, the distance will reduce only to about 29 cm.

Requirement:

The air cooling for the SVT has to run at atmospheric pressure and should not exceed a pressure of 4 mb.

Justification:

Higher pressure might lead to implosion of the TPC-IFC

Status:

We are trying to combine the air cooling of the SVT with the air stream through the TPC gas gap.

Requirement:

The surface of the SVT structure towards the TPC should not have any sharp edges.

Justification:

Sharp edges might lead to HV sparks.

Status:

We consider a conductive layer of aluminized mylar on top of the cable routing and the graphite epoxy tubes of the SVT structure.
