Requirement:
DAQ will provide required pre-processing of raw detector data to generate space point summary information to be used in the level-3 CPUs, as well as the level-3 CPUs themselves. There will be sufficient processing power available at this stage to handle the preprocessing of data and transport of summary information to level-3 CPUs at a rate of 100 events/sec.
Justification:
The raw data are found in buffers on DAQ receiver boards. Massive amounts of processing are required to convert anode responses to space points to be passed to tracking code in the level-3 CPUs; this proe-processing can occur in real time only with the help from custom-built hardware in the DAQ system.
