FMS 2001/03/03 problems/solutions: Problem #1: 1) swap FM101 (FMS vme addrs 0x14000000 | crate slot 10) and FM005 (vme addrs 0x16000000 | crate slot 11). CHANGE VME ADDRESSES ON DSMs. run FMStest_110303 tier1 and check bits.. - if bit 8 okay then problem is with original FM101 DSM (now in slot 11 after switch). fix:replace DSM in slot 11 - if bit 8 still bad/flakey problem is downstream (i.e. FM101-DSMI, cable/patch-panel, FP201-DSMI, FP201) - check input bits 15/19 from FM001 to FM101 at this point to see if problem #3 persists 2) swap FP201 (L1 vme addrs 0x1c000000 | crate slot 18) and ST201(L1 vme addrs 0x1a000000 | crate slot 16). CHANGE VME ADDRESSES ON DSMs. run FMStest_110303 tier1 and check bits.. - if bit 8 okay then problem is with original FP201 DSM (now in slot 16 after switch). fix:replace DSM in slot 16 - if bit 8 still bad/flakey problem is between DSMs (i.e. FM101-DSMI, cable/patch-panel, FP201-DSMI) 3) swap FM101 (0/1) cables with FM102 (2/3) cables at patch panel on west side of platform. run FMStest_110303 tier1 and check bits.. RETURN CABLES TO ORIGINAL POSITIONS ON PATCH PANEL AFTER COMPLETING THIS TEST. - if bit 8 in FP201 now okay then problem is upstream (i.e. FM101-DSMI or cable from FM101 to patch). proceed to "5)" - if bit 8 in FP201 still bad/flakey problem is downstream (i.e. FP201-DSMI or cable from patch to FP201). proceed to "4)" 4) swap input cables on FP201 DSMI (ch 0/1 : JP2/JP7). (this will require powering off crate, unseating DSMI, pulling out far enough to exchange the 2 cables, and reseating the DSMI.) - if bit 8 in FP201 now okay then problem is cable (originally in top position (JP2) and now on the bottom (JP7)). fix: replace cable. - if bit 8 in FP201 still bad/flakey problem is FP201-DSMI. fix: replace DSMI 5) swap output cables on FM101 DSMI. (this will require powering off crate, unseating DSMI, pulling out far enough to exchange the outer most cables, and reseating the DSMI. this may not be easy owing to the tight population of boards in the FMS crate and the crush of cables). run FMStest_110303 tier1 and check bits.. - if bit 8 in FP201 now okay then problem is cable. fix: replace cable - if bit 8 is still bad/flakey problem is FM101-DSMI. fix: replace DSMI Problem #2 1)swap FM009 (vme addrs 0x1a000000 | crate slot 16) with FM010 (vme addrs 0x1b000000 crate slot 17). CHANGE VME ADDRESSES ON DSMs. run FMStest_110303 tier1 and check bits.. - if bits 19/21 okay then problem is with original FM009 DSM (now in slot 17 after switch). fix:replace DSM in slot 17. - if bits 19/21 still bad/flakey problem is downstream (i.e. FM009-DSMI, cable to FM103, or FM103-DSMI). note: i assume FM103 not the problem since it was replaced during last access and problem #2 persists). 2) swap FM009-DSMI. run test pattern. - if bits 19/21 in FM103 now okay then problem is fixed. - if bit 19/21 in FM103 still bad/flakey problem is cable between FM009 and FM103 or FM103-DSMI. 3) swap FM103-DSMI. run test pattern. - if bits 19/21 in FM103 now okay then problem is fixed. - if bit 19/21 in FM103 still bad/flakey problem is cable between FM009 and FM103. fix: replace cable. Problem #3: 1)if solution to problem #1 was replacing FM101 DSMI, then check to see if problem #3 still exists 2)swap FM001 (vme addrs 0x10000000 | crate slot 6) with FM002 (vme addrs 0x11000000 crate slot 7). CHANGE VME ADDRESSES ON DSMs. run FMStest_110303 tier1 and check bits.. - if bits 15/19 okay then problem is with original FM001 DSM (now in slot 7 after switch). fix:replace DSM in slot 7. - if bits 15/19 still bad/flakey problem is downstream (i.e. FM001-DSMI, cable to FM101. note: i assume FM101 and FM101-DSMI have been vindicated with test procedures undertaken for problem #1). 3)swap FM001-DSMI. run test pattern. - if bits 15/19 in FM101 now okay then problem is fixed. - if bit 15/19 in FM101 still bad/flakey problem is cable between FM001 and FM101. fix: replace cable.
