Search for incorrectly mapped pre-/post- shower channels

  • Data from run 5056046:

    1. Minbias run with the EEMC SMD in the datastream. All towers not in sector 6 (which may be faulty) were used in the following algorithm:
    2. If there is a MIP in the tower (E from 0.2 to 0.5 GeV) and no MIPS in adjacent towers (E<0.2 GeV), write to the tree:
      1. tower energy
      2. pre-shower 1 and 2 ADC values
      3. the average of these quantities for neighbors

      Plots:
      1. Spectrum of channels in which pre-shower 1 saw a hit, but pre-shower 2 did not. No channels stand out.
      2. Spectrum of the difference (in ADC counts) between preshower 1 for a tower and the average of pre-shower 1 of the neighbors, all towers included
This spectrum looks approximately the same for every single individual channel. Why do (for most channels) the neighboring pre-shower detectors see more than the one with the MIP?
      3. Same as 2 vs channel number
      4. Same as 3, pre-shower 2
      5. Same as 1, preshower 2 without channel 439
      6. Same as 5, channel 439, not incorrectly mapped, but with a weird value?
      7. Same as 2, post-shower
      8. Same as 3, post-shower
      9. Similar to 8, but only the average ADC value of the neighbors is plotted. What's with the large values around sector 6?

      NEW Plots!

Correlation plots: if there is a MIP in the tower but no MIPs in any adjacent channels, put one point in a 2dhisto for every pre-shower channel that shows a hit, regardless of sector, phi, creed, etc...
The black line in the top of these plots is a box artifact and *not* a set of black points on the histogram.

      10. Correlation between preshower 1 and tower

    3. Breakup: Sector 5, Sector 7, Sector 8,
      11. Correlation between preshower 2 and tower
    4. Breakup: Sector 5, Sector 7, Sector 8,
      12. Correlation between postshower and tower
    5. Breakup: Sector 5, Sector 7, Sector 8,

So the mapping from pre-shower to the towers seems to be incorrect, but periodic in sector.

      Mapping corrected:

The mapping has now been corrected. These plots contain sector 6, which accounts for the strong correlations in a few channels. Still, the correlation between the pre/postshower and the towers is very evident. One more piece of information - for these plots, there was one swap made in each of the pre/postshowers in sector 8 which was not a pre/postshower swap, but rather a tower swap.

      13. Correlation between preshower 1 and tower
      14. Correlation between preshower 2 and tower
      15. Correlation between postshower and tower

On the other hand, I do not see a strong correlation at all between the pre/postshower ADC value and the tower energy (for channels in the same tower). If I make a "no-neighbors" cut but do not make an energy cut on the tower, the following plots result:
      16. Correlation between preshower 1 and tower energy - there is a weak correlation present here
      17. Correlation between preshower 2 and tower energy - no correlation is evident
      18. Correlation between postshower and tower energy - no correlation is evident
      19. Correlation between preshowers 1 and 2 and tower energy - the weak correlation in the first plot stands out more in this plot
