MIPs with signature: 00000000xx00000000 in SMD & Postshower coincidence

  • Input: ~900K minB pp events from 2004 run. Only data from sector 5 are analyzed below.

    Algorithm

  • Post Shower response
    * require positive ADC (ADC>ped+3*sigPed)
  • SMD response
    * tag fired SMD strips with adc-ped/gain >0.2 , gains from slopes are used
    * search both U & V plains for all patterns "....xx....." or "......x......" whith 8 dots before and after 'x'.
    * for every combination of strips marked as 'x' find the UxV crossing in space ( X & Y at Z=DSM).
    * accept only UxV point if it is within tower boundaries.(Only 50% of tower central area is used).
    * (crowded) exmaple of a plain response is below:
    nMatch=4 of  pattXX='........xx........' to plain='V'
    i=0, iStrip=22 type=1
    i=1, iStrip=131 type=1
    i=2, iStrip=179 type=1
    i=3, iStrip=216 type=2
    dump of V-plain:
    iStrip:
    i=  0  .......... .......... ..x....... .......... ..........
    i= 50  .......... .......... .......... .......... ..xx..xx..
    i=100  .......... .......... .......... .x........ ..........
    i=150  .......... .......... .........x .......... ..........
    i=200  .......... ......xx.. .......... .......... ..........
    i=250  .......... .......... .......... ........

    where '.' means a given strip has no response.

    Fig 1. MIP accepted by SMD and Postshower condition.
    Left - MIP energy form one SMD plain (one or two strips added) vs. strip ID, both planes U & V are projeced in this plot (but not summed).
    Right - total MIP response from both planes (U+V) vs. eta bin defined by UxV point.

  • Histograms accumulated for every tower/pre/post
    * 'a'+ name : inclusive spectrum, black
    * 'b'+ name : requires only positive ADC in post-shower, red
    * 'c'+ name : positive post-shower and UxV in this tower, blue

    Fig 3. Example of tower response (05TC03) --> MIP peak is in blue. Lower plots shows the same data but with linear Y-axis.

    Fig 4. Example of pres1 & pres2 response (05PC03,05QC03, ) --> I claim I see in pres1 one and 2 p.e. response. Lower (Y=lin) plots are rebinned.

    Fig 5. Example of post-shower. Now black & red are the same because post shower coincidence was required.

    Fig 6. Comparison of tower response (sub-sector 5TC) for MIP found with 00xx00 method (blue histo) to the TPC MIP's found by Piotr (green points) ( http://www.iucf.indiana.edu/~zolnie/STAR/cal2004.html . TPC MIP's spectra obtained from 8M AuAu62 minB events were divided by 5 to match Y-scale, error bars reflect true statistical error. (PS)
