Generic Requirements

Requirement:

The SVT On-Line calibration subsystem should be built of separate and distinct software modules callable by the main monitoring tasks. The calling sequence and data flow should be determined by the user at configuration time or at run time and based on the current needs of the experiment.

Justification:

A number of tasks functionally distinct will be run by the calibration system. It is best that these tasks belong to separate software modules or packages. It is thus possible and easy to select or de-select and activate them as needed.

Requirement:

The calibration system will not perform any monitoring of the calibration constants obtained on-line. Instead, it will store these data to the data base and they will be passed to the monitoring system.

Justification:

This allows a clear separation and management of the tasks.

Requirement:

Specific calibrations processes will be initiated by the SVT operator. There will not be automatic scheduling of the calibration processes.

Justification:

The operator will have complete control of the operation of the calibration and monitoring systems. One should not rely on the computer system to perform tasks automatically as this would require additional levels of safety and security that would make the development of the calibration and monitoring systems unduly complex.

Requirement:

The calibration system will inform the user/operator when requested (specific) calibration have been completed or if they failed to complete.

Justification:

Justification of requirement

Pedestal determination; gain determination, alignment and position determination; drift velocity determination; drift velocity profile; dead/hot channel determination; dE/dx and PID calibration
