The On-line SVT software includes software to download pedestals, gain look-up table and zero suppression parameters (thresholds and number of time bins above threshold) to the ASICs. This software should also allow to set the operation mode of the ASICs.
The ASICs must be loaded with pedestal and gains externally from the I960 CPUs and require these parameters setting to operate properly.
The ON-line SVT software includes software to read back the values of pedestals, gain lookup table and zero suppression stored in the memory of all ASICs. It should additionally compare the parameter read to those previously down-loaded.
It is necessary to be able to read back these data to verify that the ASICs have been set up properly and operate normally.
The ON-line SVT software should raise a red alarm when the parameters (pedestal, gains or zero suppression) read back from the ASICs are non identical to those previously down loaded or if an ASIC fail to respond or return sensible parameters.
The value of the parameters should be
identical. Any difference signal a hardware or software mal-function
that warrants an interuption of the data taking or a closer
examination of the failure.
