Subject: today's STAR access

Earlier today we had restricted access to the detector. I used that time
to diagnose the TOFr mapping problem and look into a problem w/ TOFp
that occurred overnight.

* TOFp-
 From the localmon data it showed that last night a few TOFp TDCs
distributions started to fill with high levels of noise or nothing at
all. The -5.2V LV powersupply appeared to be limiting the current,
therefore lowering its voltage. Increasing the current limit only
slightly already helped and i could observe the typical transient we see
when we power-up the LV supplies. Usually this is a good sign :)

* TOFr-
The localmon data showed already for a longer time that a block of 8 TDC
channels (a complete TDC module) was missing. During the 48hrs access,
(end of January) Bill, Lijuan and Johan didn't find any problems in the
cable mapping. Neither did a careful check of the DAQ software show up
anything. This morning i checked all the individual TDC modules while
our local DAQ system pulsed provided common-stops to them and I found
that TDC-#2is completely ignored in the Q-scan mode. After replacing
this unit, TDC-#2 shows up again. Finally, in strobe mode TDC-#9
appeared to have a 100ps/ch resolution instead of 50ps/ch. This unit is
now swapped too.

Our localmon team can tell us hopefully tomorrow whether both TOFp+r
problems are solved now ... provided we get beam at all!

* TOF & slowcontrols
Thanks to Bill Waggoner and Steven Gronstal TOF has now its own branch
in the slowcontrols tree. The first action we did was moving the pVPD
control interface to it. WIthin the next couple of days the monitoring
of the TOFp HV, TOFr HV and TOFr gas will be available through the SC
terminal as well ... take a look when you're on shift next time!
