STAR Computing and Software Group Organization

The STAR Computing and Software Group is headed by Torre Wenaus at BNL. The effort is divided into five areas of specialization corresponding to online computing, software infrastructure, reconstruction software, simulation software, and offline production. The computing and software effort is closely associated with the Physics Working Groups; this association is coordinated and, in general, fostered by the STAR Analysis Coordinator, Tom LeCompte at Argonne National Lab. The organization chart at the following URL indicates these relationships and who the responsible people are.

Although STAR does not have a SOFtware Infrastructure leader at this time, there is a small, but active group in place. The SOFI efforts are being coordinated by Torre Wenaus and the principal, active participants include Yuri Fisyak, Doug Olson, Pavel Nevski, Duncan Prindle, Al Saulys, Craig Tull and Herb Ward. A SoftWare infrastructure Action Task force (SWAT) team has been assembled in STAR to help with specific SOFI tasks. The SWAT Team membership includes the following:

The SAS group is the largest software group in STAR and is generally organized with respect to detector groups but also includes other areas of specialization corresponding to event generators, GSTAR/g2t (Geant 3 for STAR), global event reconstruction and visualization. The simulations effort within SAS is led by Peter Jacobs at LBNL; the event reconstruction and calibration work is led by Lanny Ray at U. Texas, Austin. The list of SAS group leaders in each specialized area are as follows:
