The images displayed on this page show a splash of sub-atomic particles
produced seconds ago by the collision of two heavy ions headed in the
opposite directions at nearly the speed of light in the Relativistic Heavy Ion
Collider (RHIC). RHIC is located at the U.S. Department of Energy's
Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York and is the world's
newest and largest particle accelerator for nuclear physics research.
