The patch panels and the cabling

This page contains informations relative to the SSD patch panel and the LV/HV cabling.

The patch panels

Two patch panels are used to connect the individual ladder power cables to the power channels. One is dedicated to the N-side (West) ladders and the other to the P-side (East) ladders. Each panel is made of 5 groups of two columns. The left column is composed of 4 connectors for the ladders and the right column is composed of 3 connectors for the +2V, -2V and +5V coming from the CAEN crates.
Near the center of the patch panel a connector is used to bring the HV from the CAEN crate to the ladders. The HV of the ladders 1 to 10 is provided on the East panel while the ladders 11 to 20 are receiving their HV using the West panel.

More detailled information can be found in this document (in French). Some pictures were also taken during the 2003 installation and can be found in a section of the phototeque.

The fuse boards

4 Amps fuses have been requested by the safety commitee to be added on the LV power lines. Fuse boards have been designed and installed between the cables from the power supply crate and the patch panel.

The SSD rack

The location of the cartes and patch panels in the SSD rack is shown on the left picture. The power supply crates are placed above and below the patch panels. A specific mechanical piece (picture below) has been designed to support the patch panel from the front and the back of the rack.

The CAEN crates

Both crate are filled with the same boards in the same slots. The following image show the original configuration of the LV and HV boards in the crates and the ladders connected to their channels.

In order to reduce the noise observed, several tests have been done and few LV cables have been flipped. The current configuration for the slots 1 (left) to 9 (right) is given by the tables below. The HV configuration (slots 0) is unchanged and given by the picture above.
