We used to use stardb-l@bnl.gov

but have retired it at least until there's a lot of DB discussion, in the
interests of avoiding too much list proliferation
Activities and plans
- Conditions, online databases based on Objectivity (Babar BdbCond package) being developed
- Objy used for event store management and organization, built on
the BaBar software: event collections, collection dictionaries,
access control, event headers (implemented)
- Raw data not in Objy; Objy references raw data as an external file
- But, Objy representation of raw data probably supported in order
to include raw data in Objy event samples
- Reconstructed DST-level data in Objy (implemented)
- Post-DST analysis data maybe in Objy, maybe in ROOT
- 11/98 decision: post-DST analysis data in ROOT
- Ntuple-level "nano-DSTs" possibly in Objy, probably in ROOT and/or
PAW; some individual choice
- 11/98 decision: nano-DST analysis data in ROOT
- 11/98 decision: ROOT is only supported format,
but computing will strive to avoid incompatibility with other
tools (ie. individual choice accommodated but not supported)
- Tag database currently in Objy, possibly ultimately in ROOT
- Implemented in Objy in MDC1; ROOT implementation will be added
for MDC2 (and will probably win out)

HepODBMS
The HepODBMS package (author Dirk Duellman, CERN/RD45) is being added to
the CLHEP library as a package providing a binding to object databases
that is independent of particular implementations (such as Objectivity).
Adopted by BaBar.
It is in /afs/rhic/star/db/HepODBMS/; see the README file. Imported
from BaBar; makefiles not converted for our use yet.
Objectivity license usage, fractional FTEs
Licenses owned by RHIC: 107 units. Licenses are concurrent use.
Approximate level of STAR usage:
- Torre Wenaus, 30% conditions and event store DB development
- Jan Chrin, 10% conditions database development
- Akio Ogawa, 10% offline
- Dhammika Weerasundara, 10% offline
- Jeff Porter, 30%, online/offline
- Markus Schulz, 10%, online/DAQ
- Herb Ward, 10%, offline
- Bill Love, 10%, offline
- Thomas Ullrich, 10%, offline
