NORMAL OPERATION:

  1. All EEMC subsystem components remain on all the time

LV power, HV to PMT's, tower FEE, MAPMT FEE, etc. remain on all the time -- NO SPECIAL MODES during RHIC tuning, beam dumping, or STAR magnet ramping,

BUT there are REQUIRED THINGS TO DO! see next items below.

  2. Monitoring & checking

    1. Make sure "monitoring" is on for towers, mapmt, HVSys systems

    2. Check top level screen EEMC detector status -- all indicators should be green or variations known/understood; -- similarly check EEMC status at STAR alarm handler (notify experts if necessary)

    3. QA/C check with selected EEMC Panitkin plots --> action -- variations from norm should be known/understood or investigated (notify experts if necessary)

    4. Detailed checking of EEMC detector components available on individual screens described in the documentation. See Alarms/Recovery section for resolving problems!

  3. EEMC fill-to-fill action and daily maintenance

Please read and follow the details given on the separate Fill & Daily To Do screen. Also, see latest "STAR Detector Readiness Checklist" for any variants of protocol. Briefly, the procedures involve:

    1. "Read" tower and MAPMT FEE's at beginning of fill (after ramp) to test integrity of electronics readout

    2. At end of fill, check tower configuration to monitor any changes

    3. Daily monitoring of equipment status

CAUTIONS & UPDATES:

  1. Beginning with run 6 (and continuing with run 7), reprogramming of the DSM's to enable more restrictive L0 triggering, as well as advanced L2 data filtering, require the EEMC to present its pedestals to L0 differently than determined by the power up default from the Tower FEE PROMS ... to properly handle these new tier 1 files the EEMC tower GUI should be in "unstaggered" mode (e.g., default, see slide switch) and in general any crate reconfiguration should use "master reload" which then includes configuration & ped load as well as calculation and redownload of all LUT's.
